Text Neck, the New Ailment of Gadget Users

Nowadays, a new condition dubbed “text neck” is on the rise due to the amount of time people spend hunched over their mobile phone and tablet computer screens, chiropractors have warned. According to chiropractors, there is a new ailment afflicting avid texters.

Thousands are being treated for the condition known as “text neck” which is caused by the neck being flexed for too long while staring down at a smart phone which is obviously an unnatural position for your neck muscles. Then, the condition, which can result in headaches, shoulder, arm and wrist pain, most often afflicts tall, young women with slender necks.

To prevent from suffering from “text neck” doctors suggest the gadget users take regular breaks from texting or hold the phone in front of their face while texting. Or they could go back to talking on the phone.

Moreover, they always seem to find the sorts of pain solutions that require you to spend the rest of your life visiting a chiropractor. If you walked into many a chiropractor’s office and said you were suffering at the hands of a redneck, they surely would not think twice before laying you down and twisting your neck toward Texas and then back.

It has known, therefore, that the chiropractic profession has come up with a brand-new ailment: text neck. In fact, this is, apparently, caused by stretching your neck unreasonably in order to send naked pictures of yourself through your cell phone.

Moreover, The Telegraph explains that the chiropractic profession believes this neck-stretching could eventually lead to arthritis. Apparently, some chiropractors claim that they are already treating thousands of people who are suffering all kinds of pain because of unreasonable digital use of their necks. Your neck is a tender thing and it is not made of stuff that enjoys being stretched for hours on end in the cause of communication.

“Imagine sitting on your ankle sideways for 10 minutes. It would feel stiff and sore when you returned it to its natural position,” Rachael Lancaster, of Freedom Back Clinics in Leeds, U.K., said to the Telegraph.  Panic-stricken though they are, they still feel that humanity can manage to adapt to this new form of physical behavior.

Surely at least some people, on feeling stiffness, pain, or discomfort in their necks, might be smart enough to adjust their seating position, their head angle, or their attitude to life. For the alternative could be even more troubling, a visit to the chiropractor is the best choice.

The affliction, caused by flexing the neck for extended periods of time, can be surely a forerunner of permanent arthritic damage if it goes without treatment. Then, cases of the repetitive strain injury are on the rise as smart phones and tablet computers such as the iPad become increasingly popular, experts said.

Moreover, in severe cases the muscles can eventually adapt to fit the flexed position, making it painful to straighten the neck out properly. A chiropractor said her company had treated thousands of patients for the condition, which can also result in headaches and shoulder, arm and wrist pain.  Rachael Lancaster, of Freedom Back Clinics in Leeds, also said: “Text neck is caused by the neck being flexed for a prolonged period of time.
